It is six kilometres north of Kollam with a lovely picnic area. A Maha Vishnu temple close by brings people in droves to make offerings to their ancestors during Vavu Bali. It is a favourite among tourists with numerous people opting to swim in the waters or simply get a tan. Another attraction nearby is Njayarazhcha Para, also known as Sunday Rock. This hillock, which juts out into the water for about 1.5 kilometres, can be seen clearly from the shore during low tides.
