In Kollam district’s Anchal village is a little-known waterfall known as ‘Erappu’ – it means "noise" in Malayalam, for the waterfall's roaring sound. Also referred to as Oliyariku waterfalls, travellers are attracted to it despite being much smaller than the others in Kollam, for its peaceful atmosphere. What’s more, Erappu doesn’t dry up even in the summers. A large banyan tree towers over the waterfalls, its roots appearing among the misty sprays of the falls like billowing locks of hair. The waterfalls have an eerie beauty, shrouded in lore and mystery, the dense vegetation nearby adding to the ambience. Need we say a dip in the waters is absolutely recommended?
