Mundakkal Papanasam Beach caught the attention of tourists and photographers when the dredger ship ‘Hansitha’ washed up on its shore in 2016. The ship became a source of fascination for many apart from providing a quirky backdrop for wedding photographers. But the beach is most visited during the Karkidaka Vavu Bali for the Bali darpanam ritual when thousands of people make offerings to their ancestors on the new moon day of the Malayalam month of Karkidakam. Located in the heart of Kollam, the best time of year to visit is October through December.
