Near the popular tourist destination of Varkala is the lovely beach-backwater destination of Kappil. The beach, one of the cleanest in the state, is where the Arabian Sea and Kappil Lake meet. One can also see Varkala Cliff in the distance from Kappil Beach. Kappil also offers one of the most picturesque drives with the calm, jade waters of Edava Lake on one side and the deep blue Arabian Sea on the other.
It is the ideal beach location due to the vast coconut palm groves that sway in the wind, the golden sandy beaches and the rocks that shield the shore from the waves. A climb to the Kodi cliff offers a bird's-eye view of the Arabian Sea. Boats are available for rent for a cruise through the backwaters that border the ocean. Row and pedal boats are also available. Take a stroll across the bridge that spans the lake. Sea rafting, wave-surfing, banana boat rides and a host of other options are available.
