It is thought that the sage Parashurama consecrated this idol. In this image, Lord Ayyappan is shown as a young boy or teenager. The area was given the name Aryankavu as Ayyappan is known as Tiru Aryan. Like Sabarimala, women between the ages of 10 and 50 from barred from entering the temple. There are Tamil traditions observed here through the rituals and pujas. The idol is that of a young Ayyappan seated in the centre with Shiva and Parvati Devi on either side of him. There are 18 steps leading to the sanctum sanctorum, just like at Sabarimala.
The murals of a number of Hindu deities are preserved here. The temple has been constructed using traditional architectural elements from Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Pandiyan Mudippu, Trikkalyanam and Kumbhabhishekam are among the most significant festivals here. Pushkaladevi of the Sourashtra community is thought to have been Sastha's bride here. Every year, the Sourashtra community celebrates marriage as a festival in Aryankavu. Even today, Sourashtrians visit the temple in large groups during the ‘Mandala Pooja’ season.
